BC, Tallinn, 31.10.2017.Print version
The Estonian Center for Defense Investment at 3 p.m. on Monday will open the extension of the Tapa military base, which is one of the largest and most complex defense-related constructions in Estonia in the past decade, reports LETA/BNS.

Minister of Defense Juri Luik opened the extension along with representatives of the Estonian defense forces and allies, the Estonian Center for Defense Investment said. The finished construction includes 20 buildings and structures, including three barracks, a dining facility, maintenance and study building and service buildings - with a total area of approximately 38,000 square meters.

The new barracks are the most modern in Europe and have been designed in consideration of the modern training requirements and the needs of the soldiers. Each barrack includes 300 accommodation spaces and 30 working spaces. One building houses the living and study space of one subdivision as well as equipment and maintenance rooms.

The dining facility with an area of 5,500 square meters is one of the largest in the Baltic countries. The canteen can cater 3,200 people per day - 2,400 of whom on the spot and 800 at field exercises.

The construction of the extension of the Tapa military base was concluded at the beginning of October and cost 43 million euros.

As of this fall, the Tapa base includes eight barracks, three of which are used by allies.
