Ten streets in Riga center to be resurfaced this summer for at least EUR 12 mln

Ten streets in Riga will be resurfaced this summer, including Brivibas Street, Valdemara Street, Elizabetes Street, Stabu Street, and Dzirnavu Street, and the cost of the project will amount to at least EUR 12 mln, Emils Jakrins, head of the Riga City Council's Traffic Department, told a press conference today.

Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs said that this year, unlike 2016 when street renovation only began in August, resurfacing of streets would start already in June and continue all summer. Most street renovation projects are to be completed by September 1.

All changes regarding new bike lanes and cycling infrastructure will have to wait for next year, as it would not make much sense to mark bike lanes before the winter season, added Usakovs.

According to Jakrins, a section of Brivibas Street from the intersection with Lacplesa Street to Gaisa Bridge will be resurfaced, as well as Valdemara Street in its entirety, Elizabetes Street from the intersection with Eksporta Street to Hanzas Street, Stabu Street section from Valmieras Street to Skanstes Street, Dzirnavu Street section from Gogola Street to Terbatas Street, Merkela Street section from Marijas Street to Brivibas Street, as well as Lencu Street, Ganu Street, and a section of Zirnu Street from Valdemara Street to Hospitalu Street.
