Information signs at Freedom Monument in Riga to cost EUR 23,000

BC, Riga, 29.06.2016.Print version
Three information signs made of bronze will be put up at the Freedom Monument, one of Latvia’s national symbols located in the center of the Latvian capital Riga, informs LETA.

The Riga City Council has granted EUR 23,000 for the purpose, said Marite Senberga, a representative of Rigas Piemineklu Agentura (RPA), the municipal agency responsible for monuments in Riga.

She said this year the agency will continue its efforts to supply monuments in Riga with information signs about the monuments’ history and their authors.

The sketches of the information signs to be installed at the Freedom Monument had been produced by Vecumnieks un Berzini architect office and approved by the municipal Council of Monuments. A tender is under way to find the contractor who will make the signs and install them. Bids will be accepted until July 7 this year.

Senberga could not say when the winner of the tender could be announced but said that, if all went well, the official unveiling of the information plaques could take place this November. There will be three plaques installed in the street surface around the monument, replacing the temporary information stands that currently offer tourists information about the Freedom Monument in three languages.
