Lithuanian Seimas makes first move to ban smoking in balconies

BC, Vilnius, 25.09.2015.Print version
The Seimas of Lithuania has made the first step towards banning smoking in balconies of apartment houses. On September 24th, MPs approved the relevant draft amendments to the Law on Tobacco Control, reports LETA/ELTA.

The draft amendments, submitted by MP Antanas Matulas, were supported by 46 MPs, while 5 MPs voted against with 22 abstentions. After discussions in the Seimas committees, the draft law should be returned for the Seimas voting on 1 December.

MP Matulas expects that the ban would better protect people from passive smoking and its harmful effects.

"Why should another person, a non-smoker, living in an apartment house, suffer?" the politician asked.
