The State Construction Control Office in Latvia had inspected 261 educational establishments in Latvia by August 25, which is 40% of all buildings the office has visited so far this summer. The majority of the inspected educational establishments, 89%, are either in excellent or good condition, according to the office.

Inspections at educational establishments have been the Construction Control Office's priority this summer. "I am pleased to say that local governments and school principals have been very forthcoming regarding the office's inspections, and the majority of the establishments are in good condition, whereas the shortcomings we have found can be quickly repaired and these buildings pose no threat to the public," said the Construction Control Office's Director Peteris Drukis.

Of the inspected educational establishments, 66% are in Riga, 15.7% in Kurzeme province, 8% in Zemgale, 5.7% in Vidzeme, and 4% in Latgale. Preschools and primary schools have been the Construction Control Office's priority.

7% of educational establishments inspected by the Construction Control Office are in excellent condition and 82% in good condition, which means that these buildings are safe to the public.

11% of the buildings inspected by the Construction Control Office are in satisfactory condition, which means that shortcomings have been established there that have to be repaired, and the office has to be notified once the repairs are completed.

As reported, out of 2,000 public buildings that are to be inspected this year, the Construction Control Office carried out inspections at 600 in the first six months this year, and violations were detected in every fifth building inspected.
