New national football stadium in Riga expected to be unveiled in June 2017

The new national football stadium, which is to be constructed on Krisjana Barona Street 116A in central Riga, is planned to be officially opened on June 1, 2017, reports LETA.

The Latvian Football Federation today signed a construction agreement today with construction company Arcers on the construction of the stadium, LFF general-secretary Janis Mezeckis told members of the press.

 

Mezeckis emphasized that the new stadium will not only be meant for football matches and practices, but will also hold the LFF's new offices, as well as a football museum.

 

If all goes to plan, construction works are expected to begin at the beginning in 2016, and the stadium is planned to be unveiled on June 1, 2017.

 

The project will cost approximately EUR 10 million. The LFF points out that it already has EUR 8.5 million in guarantees, and still needs to obtain EUR 1.5 million, which it intends to to through marketing activities.

 

The football stadium itself will hold 5,700 spectators, and in additional to what already has been mentioned, will also include a cafe, parking lot and a rehabilitation center.
