Construction violations detected in every fifth public building in Latvia

BC, Riga, 03.07.2015.Print version
Out of 2,000 public buildings that are to be inspected in 2015 (until July), the State Construction Control Bureau has carried out inspections at 600 so far, and violations were detected in every fifth building inspected, the bureau's Director Peteris Drukis said in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes", cites LETA.

The most dangerous building is the Riga Circus, which, in Drukis' opinion, should be closed to the public, said Drukis. Despite its dangerous condition, the circus building has been open to the public for years. The building's owners have been ordered to eliminate the violations.

The majority of hazardous buildings are located in Riga. Most of the violations are connected with fire safety. Other most common violations concern mechanical resistance and environmental accessibility. In most cases, the danger level in these buildings is not high enough to require immediate improvements. The owners of these buildings have one to three months to rectify the situation.

The majority if inspections were carried out at trade centers and buildings that host public events. The bureau plans on spending this summer inspecting schools and other educational institutions.
