Riga Circus hopes to revive fire-damaged premises by early July
As Circus Managing Director Lolita Lipinska pointed out yesterday, there are sections in the complex that still cannot be used, but this has no impact on the Latvian circus artistes who need to use just the first floor, while foreign guest performers have arrived in their campers, and are residing there.
"Right now, we are small in number, and we can manage, but by July, when we host the International Circus Festival for Children and Youth "Wonderful World", every corner of the complex will have to be in ship shape. We will attempt to accomplish this by ourselves," Lipinska explained.
Plaster slabs and chunks from ceilings and walls are being removed, and the black soot mopped up.
"Today (April 16th), I am cleaning photographs from our archives reflecting the Circus' long and illustrious history," said Lipinska.
In theory, the insurance company may pay compensation in the amount of EUR 7200. Regarding the estimates for 350 000 euros, which
Riga Circus submitted to the Ministry of Culture on March 30, then it is unlikely that anything will change, said Lipinski.
Fire in Riga Circus occurred on March 19. Its
total area was 120 sq.m.
