Riga Circus suffers EUR 35,000 losses due to fire

BC, Riga, 27.03.2015.Print version
The Riga Circus has calculated the amount of losses caused by the recent fire, estimating up to EUR 35,000, the circus' manager Lolita Lipinska informed LETA.

She said that restoration could cost even ten times more. "It would be wrong to repair just one corner, while neglecting the rest of the floor," Lipinska stressed.

As reported, black smoke enveloped one end of Alfreda Kalnina Street in downtown Riga on March 19 as a fire of unknown origin hit the Riga Circus complex.

The fire erupted in the Circus' courtyard building and spread quickly.

Firefighters and circus personnel were quick to evacuate the animals on the premises; there was one fatality – a python died.

50 firefighters worked at the scene and 13 trucks were sent out.

The State Police have opened a criminal case on the incident at Riga Circus.
