First hole in roof for new Latvian National Library

BC, Riga, 25.03.2015.Print version
Opened in June 2014, the Latvian National Library can now count the first hole in its roof, the daily Diena reported Wednesday, cites LETA.

The defect has been traced, the library's spokesman Augusts Zilberts tells Diena, adding that this matter will be treated according to the warranty issued by the construction company. Asked whether the entire roof will be inspected because of the defect, Zilberts gave a negative answer. "It would be impractical to check the entire building," he believes.

Ilga Sokolova, a representative of Nacionala buvkompaniju apvieniba (Association of National Construction Companies), says that the association has received no information about the said problem. When it does, action will be taken according to the contract, she adds.

Sokolova points out that the association performed an inspection on the library's roof at the end of 2014, and concluded that it was in excellent condition.

Janis Dripe, an expert from the Association of National Construction Companies, claims to have seen a leak in the library's roof: "I shook my head and thought: our constructors should be informed about this." However, he believes that the number of defects in the building is minimal and that the overall quality of the construction job is good. " There had been problems before the opening – and they were solved at a rather slow pace. Furthermore, the building's surroundings are still being upgraded," the architect tells the newspaper.1

Meanwhile, the association's affiliate – Olita Princina-Voitika underlines that the building is under a two-year warranty.
