Ancient burial site in Latgale plundered

Print versionPolice in Latgale Province (eastern Latvia) have started three separate criminal processes in regard to the recent plundering of several ancient burial sites in Latgale.

As LETA was informed by State Police Latgale Regional Department spokeswoman Anastasija Laizane, the criminal process has been started for the desecration and damage of national cultural landmarks.
The crimes themselves were committed by illegal treasure hunters in January 2015, as over 400 graves at three different ancient burial sites were dug up and plundered in Latgale.
