Swiss construction company Adunic AG has offered the Economy Ministry to construct the Latvian pavilion at ''World Expo 2015'' in Milan for EUR 2 million, the company itself informed LETA.

The company has initially offered the construct the Latvian pavilion for EUR 3.1 million.

Adunic AG points out that it offers to construct a simplified version of the original pavilion, thus cutting costs.

The company points out that it will be able to construct this simplified version of the pavilion for EUR 2 million, instead of EUR 3.1 million.

The company also hopes to get an answer from the Economy Ministry by next week.

As reported, next week, January 27, the government plans to make the final decision on Latvia's participation in the international exhibition "World Expo 2015" in Milan, the coalition agreed on Monday.

Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma said that the Economy Ministry is proposing to withdraw from the project. The government will review this proposal and vote on it next week.

According to Straujuma, the greatest concerns are about the international response that will arise if Latvia withdraws from the event. The Economy Ministry and Foreign Ministry were asked to present their opinions in this regard. "Of course, the international aspect is important, as well as the fact that we are the presiding country [of the Council of the European Union]," Straujuma said.

Edgars Tavars (Greens/Farmers) explained that, taking into account the large expenses, Latvia's participation in "Expo" would become inefficient. Using state funds to increase Latvia's popularity and improve its business and export development can be done at other events and in a more efficient way. This is why the Union of Greens and Farmers is urging the coalition to approve the motion to withdraw from "Expo", Tavars said.
