Record grain crops ensured an increase in the value of grain production this year in Estonia while the livestock farming sector shows the impact of trade restrictions, Estonian Agriculture Ministry said in a fresh review, cites LETA.

The ministry said that the Estonian agricultural sector output value in 2014 will be according to preliminary estimates 882.4 million euros.

The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Statistics Estonia compiled an initial assessment of the agricultural sector economic results for 2014, according to which, the output value of the agriculture sector falls as compared to the 2013 results published in September by 4%.

Despite a record harvest of grain, the plant production volume falls this year by 5%, since the production of other crops, including grass fodder production, is below last year's level and producer prices are in around 8% decline.

Livestock production value falls by 4%. Both bovine and swine production value is less than that of 2013. Pig farming situation is improved by the exceptional special aid for the pig farming sector, which forms 7.7% of its 2014 annual output value. However, the growth of the milk production that has the main role, has been held back by the production quota and the impact of the Russian import ban on the buying price.
