In the first six months of the year, compared to the same period last year, there has been a reduction in the number of Latvian companies exporting their food or agricultural products to Russia, according to a report released by the Economy Ministry on the consequences of the Russian sanctions, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

In 2013, 38 companies exported food or agricultural products to Russia, with a total value of EUR 31.22 million. However, now, there are 23 companies exporting their food or agricultural products to Russia, with a total value of EUR 23.91 million.

According to the report, companies operating in the milk and dairy sector used to export a considerable amount of their products to Russia, which has since been halted due to the food embargo.

The report points out that other products groups hit by the embargo are in a similar situation – meat and meat products, fish, vegetables and fruits. Exports to Russia of these products have also been halted.
