Latvia contributes to the UN Ebola Fund 40,000 euros

On 21 October, the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on contributing 40,000 euros for the efforts to contain the latest Ebola outbreak, informed BC Latvian MFA.

The amount allotted from the State Budget Programme “Emergency Funds” will be paid by the Foreign Ministry into the United Nations Ebola Multi-Partner Trust Fund.

 

The largest Ebola epidemic in history has been recorded in West Africa and the virus continues to spread in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. As of 14 October this year, 9,216 people had contracted the Ebola virus, out of which 4,555 of them have perished.

 

Several cases of the disease have also been registered outside Africa.
