"Russia historically has been a desirable market to Latvian business owners, however, the current political situation has caused serious alterations, thus, the exporting companies are forced to conquer new markets. For the past three weeks, we worked intensely both in Belarus and Ukraine – the situation has completely changed there," Kronbergs said, indicating that Ukrainian business owners have cut their business ties with Russia, thus, Latvian businessmen now have an excellent opportunity to replace the empty niche.

Kronbergs also said that Ukraine is a well-organized country and cordial towards Latvia.

"If we are forced to dodge declarations of an embargo, then we must look for stable alternatives," Kronbergs said, adding that despite the conflict in the country's east, economic activity in Ukraine has not come to a halt.

During the past weeks, LCCI also was active in Belarus, discussing various solutions on how to transport cargoes through this country, which is recognized as a reliable partner, to export products to Belarus, Kazakhstan, and the Eurasian Customs Union, Kronbergs said.
