The Seimas in Lithuania adopted amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences regulating the responsibility for the sale of energy drinks to minors with 90 votes in favour and 5 abstentions, informs LETA/ELTA.

The Code provides that the sale of energy drinks to persons under 18 years of age will draw a fine from LTL 200 up to LTL 400 (EUR 58-116); the purchase or any other transfer of energy drinks to persons under 18 years of age will draw a fine from LTL 50 up to LTL 200 (EUR 15-58).

Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Health Affairs Dangute Mikutiene who is the initiator of the amendments said that legalisation of fines against adults is the second stage seeking to limit energy drink consumption among minors. According to her, foreign media has welcomed Lithuania's initiative to protect the health of children and teenagers.
