Estonian government supports restoring ban on public drinking

BC, Tallinn, 16.10.2014.Print version
The Estonian government supported at its Thursday session a bill that re-introduces the ban on alcohol consumption in public places and prescribes that local municipalities can specify places and events where such activity would be allowed, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The justice minister, who brought the bill to the government, said that the situation, that emerged after the amendment to the law enforcement law, that allowed public alcohol consumption, came in force starting July this year, did not correspond to the expectations of the society.

An absolute ban on the consumption of alcohol will stay in force in certain places like the proximity of childcare institutions and playgrounds, health authorities, public transport and its stops and in those places, a local government cannot allow the consumption of alcohol.
