CPB wants Riga Stradins Hospital official charged with fraud

BC, Riga, 16.10.2014.Print version
Corruption Prevention Bureau in Latvia (CPB) has requested a criminal process started against an unnamed official at Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital for abuse of authority and fraud, informs LETA.

CPB's press release does not mention the person's name or status. It says that in November 2012, the said official, using his or her authority, committed deliberate acts that caused significant financial damages to the hospital.

According to the bureau, the hospital's official signed an agreement with a private individual on registration and submission of documents to the Patent Office. The hospital was supposed to pay EUR 1,821 to the person for his services. However, investigators have established that the hospital official's relative actually performed these activities. Part of the said amount – EUR 1,505 – was paid to the hospital's official.

Therefore, CPB wants a criminal process to be started against the hospital's official for abuse of power and fraud, and against the official's relative for fraud and aiding and abetting the hospital official.
