Estonian entrepreneurs want at least a half-year advance notice of tax changes

BC, Tallinn, 26.09.2014.Print version
Estonian entrepreneurs want to know about all tax changes at least half a year in advance in the future; on Thursday, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry handed over to Riigikogu Chairman Eiki Nestor the corresponding address, which has been signed by more than 1,200 entrepreneurs, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The Chamber of Commerce said that this is the largest joint statement of Estonian entrepreneurs ever.

"We believe that the state has already grown so old that it could plan its activities a little longer in advance," said Chamber of Commerce and Industry board chairman Toomas Luman. "Our proposal is essentially that when the state budget for the next fiscal year is being compiled, no tax changes that were not valid on July 1 of the previous year could be used as the basis. This would be a six-month period."

"The idea itself is very reasonable. The taxpayer needs to know what lies ahead. Must know it within a reasonable period of time," said Chairman of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor. "The six-month rule has been, at least in words, such that all political parties support it. And if they support it words, then why should they not support it in the text of a law."
