Estonian doctor helps fight spread of Ebola outbreak in Liberia

Dr. Argo Parts participates in the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team four-week mission in Monrovia, Liberia to help prevent the spread of outbreak of Ebola, LETA/Pubic Broadcasting reports.

The task of the 13-member international team is to support international co-ordination of the Ebola disease outbreak prevention.

 

Since 2003, Dr. Parts has been on missions under the auspices of the United Nations on seven occasions. Previously he worked in 2008-2009 as Estonian health care expert in Afghanistan's Helmand province. Dr. Parts of infectious diseases physician.

 

Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has this year supported the UN Coordination Board for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and UNDAC that is part of it, with 430,000 euros.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has this year allocated 60,000 euros to WHO to fight spread of Ebola in Africa.
