"Lithuania and Ukraine have much in common, we share a similar mentality and attitude, thus, I think cooperation between the two countries would be beneficial. I would also like to congratulate Ukraine on making the historic step and ratifying the Association Agreement with the European Union," said Agriculture Minister Baltraitiene.

The Ukrainian ambassador who greeted in the Lithuanian language thanked the minister for her kind words and proposed Lithuania to unite efforts and seek for new markets together. "Lithuania has vast experience. In order to export goods to third countries we need additional certificates, therefore, for us this task is difficult, whereas it should not be hard for Lithuania. Such relations will be beneficial for your businesses too because a portion of profit from trade will remain in Lithuania," said Ambassador Zhovtenko.

Ukraine which finds itself in turmoil is in need of assistance from the neighbouring countries. Bilateral Action Plan for 2014-2016 was signed not long ago. Lithuania is going to export meat, fish and dairy products to Ukraine. Experience will be shared in the areas of science, livestock farming and breeding, fisheries etc. Twinning projects when certain state institutions cooperate are especially relevant.

In 2013 Lithuania's exports to Ukraine mostly included cheese, skimmed milk powder, fish products and canned food, cream, lactose and lactose syrup. Last year export of agricultural and food products amounted to EUR 17.3 million. In 2013 compared to 2012 export of Lithuanian origin products grew by 1.5 times.
