Lithuania PM names new markets for dairy products

Lithuania is intensively looking for new markets to sell produce of Lithuanian farmers and dairy companies which have suffered due to Russian embargo, says Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, cites LETA/ELTA.

In an interview to the national radio on Tuesday, the PM said that Economy Minister Evaldas Gustas will leave for Japan at the end of this weak. Also, he said, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other state institutions are working on the task of finding new markets. This autumn, Lithuania will open an embassy in the Republic of South Africa.

 

"We are also working with the Brazilian market, the United States of America – I will go on a visit to the US on 5 October where we expect to sign documents on market opening for some of our food products, particularly, meat and poultry," the prime minister said.

 

Butkevicius also said that the Government has been looking for new markets in the Arab countries, Israel. This week, parliament is to amend the law on ritual slaughter of animals.

 

"We even work with such countries as Singapore and Malaysia, as well as we have started strong initial discussions with Indonesia," he said.
