BC, Riga, 16.09.2014.Print version
"Killing wild boars will not control their population," the head of the Food and Veterinary Service (FVS) Maris Balodis said in an interview with the Latvian Television show "Rita panorama" today, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

He stressed that there is no active hunting of wild boars in the territories hit by African swine fever at the moment, and this will most likely remain so.. A bigger impact on the population of wild boars could be noticeable in winter by reducing the amount of fodder.

As reported, African swine fever has hit 90 wild boars in 22 counties in Latvia.

No new cases of African swine fever have been found in domestic pigs since August 29.

So far, African swine fever has hit 66 domestic pigs in 31 farms. A total of 521 domestic pigs have been culled.
