Government to allot EUR 40,000 to hospitals in connection with Zolitude tragedy

BC, Riga, 16.09.2014.Print version
The government of Latvia will decide on allocating compensations to medical institutions in connection with medical services rendered to the victims of last year's Maxima supermarket tragedy in Zolitude, informs LETA.

National rehabilitation center "Vaivari".

The funds will cover a period from February 1 until June 30. The total sum is EUR 39,999.

The National Health Service had to make sure that the hospitals calculate the costs, but do not collect payments from the victims and patients. As a result, medical institutions now require compensations in order to cover the treatment costs. In a time period between November 21, 2013 and January 31, 2014, this sum was EUR 46,160, which is already covered.

The following medical institutions are to receive funding from the state: the national rehabilitation center "Vaivari", Riga East Clinical University Hospital, Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Riga 1st Hospital, Veselibas centrs 4, medical society ARS, Latvian Plastic, Center of Plastic and Reconstructive Microsurgery, and other medical institutions.

A total of 15 victims received treatment in these hospitals from February 1 until June 30.

As reported, 54 people died and scores were injured when the Maxima supermarket caved in on November 21, 2013.
