The largest forest management company in Latvia Latvian State Forests (Latvijas valsts mezi, LVM) turned over EUR 147.7 million in the first six months of 2014, which is EUR 15.2 million more than in the respective period of 2013, the company informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

During the first six months of 2014, LVM sold 2.5 million cubic meters of various round timber – mainly saw logs, plywood blocks, small-diameter logs, as well as technical wood products and firewood – distributed to Latvia’s wood processing companies.

In the first half of 2014, LVM sold 0.55 million cubic meters of live trees. In order to manage forests in the long-term, the company put a lot of effort into maintaining and restoring them – LVM restored 8,600 hectares of forest territory, and took care of 17,555 hectares covered with young forest plantations.

The increase in turnover was facilitated by the beneficial situation in the market in the first half of 2014, when there was a stable demand for timber and a slight increase in prices of round timber assortment distributed by LVM.

LVM currently manages 1.62 million hectares of Latvia's territory, 1.59 million of which consists of forest lands. 0.32 million hectares (20% of the total area run by LVM) of forest lands are protected areas. 100% of the company's shares belong to the Ministry of Agriculture.
