BC, Vilnius, 08.09.2014.Print version
Insurance company ERGO Insurance has covered costs incurred by Lithuanian Idavang for all 19,198 pigs that had contracted African swine fever, died or had to be slaughtered in its farm in Ignalina district, reports LETA/ELTA.

In the nearest future disaster utilisation costs will be calculated and covered as well. ERGO Insurance estimates that damage caused reaches nearly several million litas and is the biggest that had to be paid out in Lithuania to a farm that has insured livestock.

Idavang follows western farming practices and insures livestock. ERGO Insurance started offering animal insurance services more than a decade ago.

African swine fever hotbed was found in Idavang farming complex in late July. Idavang manages a total of 11 pig farms in Lithuania.
