Latvian dairy producers to be paid just EUR 6 mln in compensation

BC, Riga, 27.08.2014.Print version
Although Latvian Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens and Farmers' Union) originally indicated that the dairy industry would receive EUR 13.9 million in compensation to reduce the impact caused by Russia's food embargo, the government decided yesterday to only allot EUR 6 million, reports LETA/Nozare.lv.

Government aid will be provided to reduce losses that were caused by Russia's ban on import of food products, and to maintain a steady number of dairy cattle and level of production volume.

The aid will cover 70% of the cost of productivity control tests for pedigree cattle. The aid will be allotted as a one-time payment, according to lists submitted by livestock breeders organizations.

Regulations stipulate October 1, 2014 is the deadline when applications for compensation payments will be accepted.
