Lithuania's dairy, meat producers will not be partially compensated losses from the state

BC, Vilnius, 21.08.2014.Print version
The Government of Lithuania has not approved the proposal to use budget funds to partially compensate dairy and meat producers' losses arising due to Russian embargo, informs LETA/ELTA.

The Ministry of Agriculture had proposed to compensate LTL 0.3 (EUR 0.08) of buying-in price per litre of milk and LTL 1.5 (EUR 0.43) of buying-in price per kilogramme of meat. LTL 120 million (EUR 35 million) would have been needed to pay out compensations.

The Government motivated its decision by the fact that allocations were not foreseen in the budget. First of all the Lithuanian Parliament would have to revise the budget which would increase the deficit.

However, the proposal to bring forward advance direct payments for the next year was approved, and LTL 115 million (EUR 33 million) which would have been paid in February-March of 2015 will be paid sooner.
