Certain amounts have been earmarked in the state budget that could be used to aid the agriculture sector following Russia's food embargo, however, it is too early to mention any amounts, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity) said in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes" this morning, informs LETA.

She also declined to indicate which state budget program these sums could be provided from. Straujuma only said that government's emergency funds had not been used up completely as yet. Furthermore, amendments to the budget will not be necessary this year.

"We have a specific amount, yet we have to know what the European Commission decides, therefore it is too early to discuss any amounts, as the Ministry of Agriculture has already prepared and submitted their estimations to the Commission. We will see what decision follows. Furthermore, there are other measures available also," Straujuma indicated.

As reported, the European Commission plans to provide EUR 125 million for the European Union's farmers to help them reduce the impact of Russia's sanctions.
