During a meeting with members of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry yesterday, Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers) said in the complicated situation which has arisen due to Russia's embargo of Latvian dairy product, the state must find possibilities to support the dairy sector as a whole by intervening in one way or another, reports LETA/Nozare.lv.

The Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry invited Duklavs for a meeting today to discuss possibilities of lessening the impact the Russian food embargo has on Latvian food producers.

''The state must find ways to support the dairy sector as a whole, and intervene in one way or another,'' Duklavs said, adding that discussions on the most suitable support mechanisms have already taken place between milk farms and dairy producers.

Meanwhile, Chamber of Commerce and Industry members pointed out to the minister that not only tax holidays are needed, but also support for repaying interest payments and guaranteeing their loans.

Also discussed yesterday were ways that packaged products meant for exports to Russia, which is in the Russian language, can be sold on the local market.
