Estonian Tax Board inspects hundreds companies over the staff registration

BC, Tallinn, 15.07.2014.Print version
The Estonian Tax and Customs Board announced on Monday that it will inspect 250 companies this week to check how companies comply with the new regulations of registering all employees in the new working registry, Äripäev.ee/LETA reports.

July 1 was the day starting when entrepreneurs have the obligation to register every newly employed employee immediately in the new working registry, with the aim of reducing payment of unreported wages.

While in the past two weeks, the Tax Board was mainly engaged in counselling, starting this week, it will initiate proceedings regarding unregistered employees.

This week, the Tax Board plans to check the registration of staff in 250 companies. During the first two weeks of inspections, dramatically different situations were encountered: there were objects, where all employees were nicely registered, or where there were a few unregistered workers. But there were also instances in which almost one-fifth of the staff was unregistered.

During this time, tax officials have visited a variety of events, construction sites and businesses, in order to check whether the workers are registered, and to share information on the registration of workers.
