BC, Riga, 14.07.2014.Print version
As of the beginning of June, the design and fashion concept store Taste Latvia is offering clothing from the collection "Plankumaina zeme", designed by Eva Borherte, the winner of the contest for new designers "Riga Fashion Mood", informed Latvijas Modes palata, the organizer of the contest, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

The contest was organized last autumn by Modes palata, together with Taste Latvia, lifestyle magazine "Pastaiga", and Master's study program "Creative Industries Management" of the BA School of Business and Finance. The winner received a EUR 1,000 prize to promote and establish her collection in Taste Latvia chain stores.

Borherte's collection "Plankumaina zeme" consists of seven outfits for women; their design is inspired by Latvian and Kyrgyz ethnographic elements. The ideas for the collection came from Latvian traditional head-wraps (especially by those worn in Kurzeme), the layers of a typical Turkish garment, and patterns/symbols of Latvian ethnic attire. The collection is made from knitted fabric, wool, cotton, viscose, and silk.

Contestants participated with 27 fashion collections; six finalists presented their design originals at the fashion festival "Riga Fashion Mood".

Besides receiving EUR 1,000 for manufacturing and establishing her collection in the store chain Taste Latvia, the winner Borherte earned the opportunity to attend several courses in the BA School Master's program "Creative Industries Management" to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for developing her own brand.

The Latvijas Modes palata Society brings together fashion designers, teachers, manufacturers and other people involved in fashion industry. The goal of the society is to develop fashion industry in Latvia, and organize events for new designers and brands to offer their new collections in local and international markets along with enhancing the popularity of their work in the community.
