Lithuanian EcoMin at the Economic Forum: science and business must cooperate

Minister of Economy in Lithuania Evaldas Gustas welcomed participants of the World Lithuanian Economic Forum and noted that this year the Forum called for concrete actions which would help Lithuania to become a dynamic, enterprising and innovative country, reports LETA/ELTA.

"The annual World Lithuanian Economic Forum gathers fellow countrymen to share experience and insight, it provides a great opportunity to discuss how to improve the country's competitiveness, encourage international development as well as social and cultural advancement," the minister said.

 

According to Gustas, seeking to promote Lithuania it must be focused on creating a modern country based on scientific progress, creativity and innovation which is open for international competitiveness. The goals, according to the minister, can be achieved through the partnership of science and business, by attracting foreign investment, introducing innovations and advanced technologies, effectively using available human resources and the potential of the world Lithuanians.

 

"For the third year in a row Lithuania's economy is among the top three fastest growing economies in the European Union. The gross domestic product has been increasing by more than 3 percent each year. Similar growth is expected for 2014. Based on export growth in 2012, Lithuania was first in the EU and second in 2013. Export was the driving force of economy battling the crisis. Export is not only one of the most important macroeconomic indicators demonstrating sustainability of the economy but also provides great potential for business development," said the minister of economy.
