A majority of former employees of the now defunct metallurgical company Liepajas metalurgs remain unemployed, the director of the State Employment Agency Inese Kalvane told the LNT television channel this morning, informs LETA.

Kalvane said that after the company halted production, about 1,300 former Liepajas metalurgs employees registered as unemployed at the State Employment Agency. Many of them are actively participating in special education courses offered by the State Employment Agency, she informs.

Kalvane said that about 250 of these persons have already found jobs, while another 50 have been booted out of the unemployment list for not living up to commitments. She said that most of the unemployed persons are still looking for work near their homes in Liepaja.

As reported, over 1,500 Liepajas metalurgs employees have been laid-off since the company was deemed insolvent late last year.
