Possible limitation of alcohol export to Finland to affect Estonian producers

BC, Tallinn, 15.04.2014.Print version
Estonian producers of alcoholic drinks follow plans of Finnish parliament to limit the volume of alcohol, produced in the European Union (EU) and brought to Finland, which might influence Estonian producers, the Estonian national broadcasting ERR reports referring to the local press.

Currently, before any amendments are made to the Finnish Law, Estonian producers of strong drinks do not plan any moves towards it, cites LETA.

According to the draft law, 20 liters of spirits, 90 liters of wine (60 liters of them might be champagne), 110 liters of beer and ten liters of any other alcoholic drinks could be brought to Finland from any EU country, e24.ee reports referring to Aripaev.

Finns annually bring 50 million liters of alcohol to their homeland from Estonia, this means approximately 20 liters during each trip, noted chief editor of The Baltic Guide Mikko Savikko, the tourism expert, who spent 20 years in Estonia.

"In my opinion, limitation [of alcohol imports] in amount of 110 liters of beer and ten liters of vodka would be enough," stated the expert.
