During a Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee meeting today, which was also attended by Latvian Television (LTV), Latvian Radio (LR), the National Electronic Mass Media Council as well as others, it was decided that a Latvian satellite channel will be established for Latvians living abroad, which would inform compatriots about events taking place in Latvia, as well as air cultural broadcasts, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

lsm.lv

This channel will be retranslated via the Internet, satellite, as well as through foreign cable TV service providers.

According to some experts, it can be created on the basis of a joint portal of LTV and the Latvian Radio Lsm.lv, while others believe that it is necessary to open a separate channel. At the moment, discussions are still taking place on the channel's concept.

The head of the National Electronic Mass Media Council Ainars Dimants informed that maintaining the channel will cost EUR 200,000 from the national budget each year.
