Lithuania's health min: impossible to get better treatment for private insurance in Germany

BC, Vilnius, 20.02.2014.Print version
Comparing the healthcare systems of Germany and Lithuania, Lithuania's Minister of Health Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis said that it was impossible to get better treatment for the private insurance in Germany, informs LETA.

According to Andriukaitis, even the private and state insurance existed in Germany, the treatment was all the same on the country's level. Andriukaitis highlighted that a person having the private insurance could only expect some additional services.

"Such discussions that are in Lithuania are impossible in Germany. The treatment in this country is being funded from the state's funds and the treatment standard is all the same in entire in Germany, in all the regions. The treatment standard is approved and no one has the right to destroy it," said Andriukaitis after the meeting with Thuringian Minister for Social Affairs, Family and Health Heike Taubert on Thursday.

According to Andriukaitis, a person having a private insurance could expect to spend less time in the rows and could get to the doctor quicker.

"He can only choose a better ward or that he would be operated by the clinic's head because he received additional money for that. However, he cannot by better treatment. It would be good that the news would be transferred to Lithuania. In case of illness, no one is being discriminated in Germany," said the minister.

The guest from Germany said that the private insurance in Germany was introduced in Germany not because that some people would have a better treatment but because some groups of citizens that could not get the state insurance emerged.

"In order to all be insured, there was a need for private insurance. The most important thing is that all patients get the same treatment," said Taubert.

According to Taubert, Lithuania was on the right way and was following Germany's example.

Andriukaitis said that this was due to the strict patients' network planning in Germany. Andriukaitis highlighted that this had to be applied in Lithuania.
