In 2002-2010, consumption of illegal alcohol per capita in Lithuania – under 1 litre

From 2002 to 2010, the consumption of illegal pure alcohol per capita in Lithuania (among people over 15) stood at under one litre of pure alcohol (in 2010 – 0.8 litre; in 2009 – 0.63 litre; in 2008 – 0.84 litre and in 2007 – 0.79 litre), informs LETA/ELTA.

According to director of Drug, Tobacco and Alcohol Control Department (DTACD) Zenius Martinkus, over the past 12 months, 5.8% of the people aged 15-64 bought the illegal alcohol. This was also confirmed by the data presented by the Police Department.

 

In 2010, part of detained illegal alcoholic beverages in Lithuania, considering all of the retail market provided alcoholic beverages amounted to only 0.12%.

 

Lithuania's position in relation to alcohol consumption and the consequences arising from it, was not good. In the context of the European Union, Lithuania marked as one of the countries with the greatest harm associated with alcohol consumption.

 

The largest consumption of the pure illegal alcohol was registered in 1995 when the consumption of illegal pure alcohol per capita reached 4.9 litre. In 1995, 45% of the consumed alcohol was bought illegally.
