Riga "Dinamo" owners buy Arena Riga

BC, Riga, 06.09.2013.Print version
Ice hockey club Riga "Dinamo" owners have bought Arena Riga, as Arena Riga board member Girts Krastins told LETA.

An agreement on sale of the Arena Riga that companies AR Entertainment Limited and Glesum Investment signed yesterday stipulates that Glesum Investment becomes the sole owner of the Arena Riga.

According to Firmas.lv data, Glesum Investment belongs to "Dinamo" co-owners – Juris Savickis, the president of the club, and Igor Markov, the head of the Itera gas company.

AR Entertainment, a Rietumu Banka group company, bought the Arena Riga from its previous owners at the end of 2009.

The Arena Riga was built in 2006 to host the 2006 Ice Hockey World Championships and is a place where Riga "Dinamo" plays its home matches during the Kontinental Hockey League's regular season. The arena is an important part of the Latvian sports infrastructure as it also hosts various other sports events, as well as concerts and other recreational events.

The Arena Riga holds a maximum of 14,500 spectators.

"Riga "Dinamo" will now finally its own a base. On behalf of myself and all the fans of Latvian hockey and sports, I wish to say a big thank you to Igor Makarov, who has provided the basic funding for Riga "Dinamo" all these years and supported this project. The development of the Arena Riga will be a great stimulus to the development of Latvian ice hockey and sports in general. At the same time, this is a business project with good prospects all around. There has to be synergy. In the future, this will be the venue for sports, music and other cultural and recreational events," said Glesum Investment CEO Savickis.

On the other hand, Rietumu Banka board member Renats Lokomets said the Arena Riga was one of the most successful investment projects of the bank. The arena has achieved its full potential, becoming one of the most popular venues for all kinds of sports and recreational events on the Baltic scale, added Lokomets.

Glesum Investment was registered with the Latvian Register of Enterprises earlier this year.
