Representatives of Lithuanian Business Confederation (LVK) urge school leavers to consider seriously the choices of further studies. They claim that professionals of technological science have much better prospects in today's job market, informs LETA/ELTA.

Recently, several large multinational companies had transferred their information technology centres to Lithuania, thus the demand of information technology (IT) professionals increased significantly. According to LVK, there are already rumours about plans of other foreign companies to establish IT service centres in Lithuania, thus the tendency of IT professionals demand will only intensify.

"Currently, the average salary of programmer is LTL 4,500 (EUR 1,303) – LTL 8,000 (EUR 2,316) after taxes, however, there is a lack of the specialists. Businesses also need engineers, production managers, personnel in electronics and other technological professions. However, for some reason, young people are still attracted to management, economics or legal studies. Therefore, were are faced with the situation like this: our youth unemployment is the highest in Europe, meanwhile companies cannot grow and expand the volume of production or service due to the lack of personnel, " says LVK representative Laura Duksaite-Iskauskiene.
