Liepajas metalurgs: the searches aimed at company's destruction

BC, Riga, 15.05.2013.Print version
Liepajas metalurgs believes that yesterday’s searches were carried out at the company to cause a furor, undermine the company's reputation in the eyes of its cooperation partners and discredit one of Latvia's largest tax payers and employers – a politically-instigated move aimed at destroying the company, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

Liepajas metalurgs points out that the company's management has always cooperated and provided all information. Its members have not left the country and are not hiding. Therefore, the company is puzzled about the special forces unit Omega participating in yesterday’s searches.

Liepajas metalurgs's management expresses regret that a disagreement between two shareholders is being solved with the help of "law enforcement's inadequate methods." It apologizes to all Liepajas metalurgs partners, workers and persons involved.

As reported, State Police Economic Crime Department Chief Gatis Gudermanis said during a press briefing that 14 searches were carried out today in connection with the criminal process started on possible wrongdoing on the part of shareholders and management at Liepajas metalurgs.

He said that no one has yet been deemed a suspect, nor has anyone been detained, but added that persons are currently being questioned.
