86,000 new mobile and smartphones were sold in the first quarter of the year 2013 in Estonia, which is by 15,500 less than at the same time last year, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

According to an analysis of GfK Retail and Technology, 57% of the mobile phones sold in Estonia in March 2013 were smartphones. An average mobile phone cost 166 euros in March in Estonia, Tele2 reported.

Tele2 Estonian product assortment manager Risto Taliaru said that fewer phones were sold because new phones are of higher durability and thus have to be replaced less frequently. "The average lifespan of a phone has increased to almost two years," said Taliaru.
