Estonian Trade Unions Confederation (ETUC) long-term chairman Harri Taliga announced on Saturday that he has decided to quit the post before the end of his term of office, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Taliga said that he announces of his decision now since the 4-year development programme of trade unions will end in February and the new long term programme has to be prepared next year and he is convinced that people who will implement it should compile it.

By the beginning of March, Taliga will have worked 15 years in ETUC. Taliga said that he hopes that the ETUC council can elect a new chairman before the end of February so that the new chairman can start working on March 4.

Taliga did not speak of future plans but said that he has no plans of going into politics.
