Estonian state will channel over 267 million euros to woods

The Estonian government approved on Thursday of forestry development plan that aims to grow, use and protect forests; the cost of the plan is over 267 million euros, Äripäev Online reports.

"The majority of the costs are formed by costs of activities connected to growing and use of forests and protection of valuable natural objects," said environment minister Keit Pentus. "Investments have to be made into research and development too," she said, adding that the programme also includes informing people better of forests so that they could protect it.


Pentus said that a large part of the money will go to private forests so that all Estonian forests could be renewed and young forest taken care of properly.


The cost of the plan till 2020 is over 267 million EUR, the majority of which will come from the Environmental Investments Centre and the EU, reported LETA.
