Latvian Public Services and Transport Workers Union official Elina Dabola explained to LETA that problems with management began already at the end of last year, when wages were not paid.
The union and staff have had trouble dealing with Director General Eschilio Martinangeli, who has not been forthcoming. A May 21 joint meeting brought no solution, and a 1,500 lat fine from State Labor Inspection has also not swayed him.
Dabola said that the workers are bewildered and disgruntled, and see no other choice but to walk off the job.
