An analysis of TNS Emor indicates that Estonians drank 11% more alcohol in 2011 than in 2010 and the consumption of strong alcohol also grew, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

TNS Emor noted that last year, both local alcohol consumption and amounts bought by tourists grew.

The consumption volume of absolute alcohol by an Estonian inhabitant was 10.6 litres. Tourists bought nearly 28% of the alcohol sold last year.

TNS Emor said that the increase of alcohol consumption has been influenced by increase of incomes and fall of unemployment.

Nearly a half of the consumed alcohol was strong alcohol, the share of which has increased in a year. Beer consumption forms a bit more than a third and the amounts did not change in 2011. Drinking "other weak alcoholic beverages" like cider, cocktails and wines grew most. Weak alcoholic beverages and wines form each less than a tenth of all alcohol consumption.
