Dombrovskis emphasizes potential of economic cooperation between Latvia and China

Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovksis (New Era) today had a meeting with the new Chinese Ambassador to Latvia Hu Yeshun who had arrived on an introductory visit. Both officials agreed that the Latvian-Chinese relations were stable and sustainable, noting active political dialog, frequent mutual visits and successful cooperation in education and culture, Laine Kucinska, deputy head of the State Chancellery's Communications Department, told BC.

The Chinese ambassador said that Dombrovksis' visit to China this past May was an important factor for the development of the Latvian-Chinese relations. The ambassador also said that the Latvian pavilion at "World Expo 2010" in Shanghai was a great way for Latvia to introduce itself to businessmen and prospective tourists from China and other countries.

 

Both officials mentioned the development of economic cooperation between Latvia and China as the key priority of bilateral relations. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that a delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs will pay a visit to Latvia soon and mentioned the forthcoming visit of the President of Latvia to China in October.

 

The Prime Minister called for use of Latvia’s ports, logistic centres and other transport infrastructure for transportation of Chinese goods to the EU market, emphasizing the advantages of Latvia and its experience in the area of transport and logistics. Both officials acknowledged the potential of Chinese investors’ activities in Latvia.

 

At the conclusion of the visit, Prime Minister V.Dombrovskis expressed his conviction about the forthcoming and successful work of the new Ambassador of China in Latvia in developing both countries’ bilateral relations.
