Celsa’s representatives who recently visited Estonia studied the possibility of buying scrap metal and exporting it via the Paldiski port. The company didn’t comment upon the visit and plans concerning Estonia.
Estonian scrap metal collection companies are wary of a newcomer like Celsa. The Member of the Board of AS Kuusakoski Kaido Aettik said that rumors about their plans circulated already last year when Celsa came to the Lithuanian market. “It was clear already then that the Spanish won’t stop and will expand over the whole Baltic States market,” he said.
Aettik said that competition at the Estonian market would become tougher and the price of scarp metal would go up.
The Member of the Board of AS Formet Grupp Pavel Suslov said that scrap metal purchase prices at the local market would increase by 15-20%. "The Spanish can easily conquer 30-40% of the market," he said.
The specialists estimate that the scrap metal market volume was in Estonia last year 300-400 tones, which is by almost two times smaller than before the economic crisis.
