Gambling turnover in Latvia falls 52% in H1

Latvian lottery and gambling companies' revenue from gambling fell 52 percent on year to EUR 70.424 million in the first half of 2020, informs LETA, according to the Lotteries and Gambling Supervisory Inspection of Latvia.

Revenue generated by gambling tables dropped at the steepest rate, by 62.3 percent on year. 


Slot machines generated the highest revenue - EUR 45.732 million, which is a 59 percent reduction from the first half of last year.


Online gambling generated EUR 20.916 million in six-month revenue, down 17.6 percent on year, as casino games provided EUR 15.652 million, down 13.4 percent, betting generated EUR 5.006 million, down 29.8 percent, and revenue from card games grew 33.2 percent to EUR 257,700.


Table games (roulette, card games) generated EUR 3.036 million in the first half of 2020, down 62.3 percent on year, betting revenue dropped 56.9 percent to EUR 684,000, and bingo halls saw revenue contract 54.5 percent to EUR 56,000 in the first half of this year.


The gambling operators’ aggregate turnover in the first half of 2020 decreased 52.1 percent on year to EUR 74.06 million.


Representatives of the Lotteries and Gambling Supervisory Inspection indicated that as part of the efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19, gambling halls, casinos, bingo halls and betting points were closed from March 22 to June 9, while gambling websites were closed from April 8 to June 9.
